This home is perfect for those seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life. Yet be less than 10-12 minute Uber ride to the world famous Gaslamp District, Little Italy, Balboa Park, and the San Diego International Airport. The Starkey home was built in 1896 and is a registered historic landmark as well as a certified natural habitat. Remodeled in 2015 this incredible home has all of the modern day amenities you would find in a modern home, such as HVAC, solar, new pool, wifi, and memory foam mattresses, subzero fridge, new appliances, and outdoor kitchen. This historic estate is tucked in the beautiful hills of Chula Vista, just 10 minutes from the bustling city of San Diego, making it the perfect location for peace and quiet with easy access to everything that a coastal experience has to offer. The Starkey House located at 21 F street sits on 2 acres of lush manicured gardens with vibrant flowers, greenery, and a giant 135-year-old Camphor tree and a Moreton Bay Fig that add to the charm of 1896. Plenty of natural light fills the home revealing immaculate detail and character unique to the area that was built by a local and sold to the Starkey family. The home consist of 6000 square feet of historic architecture with 19th-century artifacts, combined with modern day comforts to make for a truly incredible experience, unlike any other home within miles.
The 6000 square foot, eight bedroom property, and the additional 2 bedroom detached cottage sit in an incredible one of a kind magical setting. Every day you can see hundreds of monarch butterflies flying around the property, there is a large owl that lives in one of the giant 145 year old trees. There is also a firepit located under the massive 145 year old Ficus tree. Guest will have access to several manicured acres of green grass, lush tropical areas, and large shaded areas, as well as hundreds of local plants and vegetation to enjoy.
There are two very large porches/patios that provide a perfect place to sit back and enjoy the true beauty of the property. A new modern swimming pool w/ hot tub was also installed in 2018. This is one of the best spots in the home. Surrounded by lush tropical palm trees and vegetation, you really feel like you have left the city and are relaxing at your resort in the tropics.
The home also has 4000 square foot barn that can be used for many activities such as dinner parties, movie nights on the 15 foot screen, or your viewing your favorite sports on the six 70 inch TV's. This barn is very unique and offers additional space for your guest to enjoy the property. The upper level of the barn is set up as a lounge area. You will find 4 different living room spaces, in which you can work or socialize. The lower level of the barn is capable of being used as a dance floor, movie room, or game room, the possibilities are endless.

Inside the home you will experience the traditional 19th century artifacts mixed with new memory foam beds and modern comfort necessities such as HVAC, new appliances, entertainment centers, and ice cold nitro brew coffee. You will be amazed by all the little details. The upper level of the barn is set up as a lounge are, with 4 different and separate living room areas.
This property has 9 bedrooms, with 18 beds, which can sleep up to 46 guest. There is an also a two-bedroom/1 bath detached cottage (sleeps 5) that can be added for an additional fee. The main home has 3.5 bathrooms, and 2 powder rooms to comfortably accommodate large groups. Upgrades include new memory foam mattresses, HVAC, new appliances, and 2 updated entertainment centers. Additional sleeping areas are available if needed. We have several high end RVs that can be added to sleep extra guest for an additional charge.
The cottage was built in 1925 and had an extensive period correct remodel in 2015. The home has a private entrance as well as private parking and outdoor areas. The cottage is 2 bedroom and 1 bath home consisting of 700 square feet in total living area. The guest cottage can sleep and additional 5 guest. The living room is dual purpose and serves as the second bedroom with a day bed and twin trundle. The guest cottage is perfect for up to 4 guest but can accommodate up to 5 guest with an additional queen air mattress that can be provided upon request.
The guest cottage has a full kitchen, full bathroom with shower and a bathtub, small breakfast nook for 4 guest, full size washer and dryer as well as two private entrances, and plenty of natural light. The home is stocked with everything you will need during your stay from towels to a fully stocked kitchen. The cottage also has a large outdoor garden that is exclusive to guest staying in the cottage, a hammock, and BBQ area, as well as outdoor seating for 6 guest.
